For a while now, when I open Microsoft Word documents, I get the warning that there are macros inside. I’ve been told that they were harmless, but just recently I’ve been getting those weird Shankar virus messages (Did you wish Shankar on his birthday?)

Anyway… I really want to get rid of all this, but I don’t have an antivirus program on my computer and the antivirus programs I have seen online do not work on my Mac computer. What should I do?

(For those of you who need more info about the virus, since I’m not sure how well known it is, go here:

It’s the Marker.O part)

Thanks so much!

I’ve never used Mac OS. I want to try something different other than Windows. Can you tell me what to expect?
I’ve heard that Mac is more for entertainment , it’s virus free , no crashes etc….
For example , can you rip/burn DVDs/CDs on Mac , surf on the net…?

Thank You

Also , why do most people prefer Windows over Mac?

Since a friend used my computer and went on Facebook via Firefox ( I usually use Safari and have never had a problem) I’ve got spam and a slower computer . I was under the (maybe false) impression that my Mac was safe against viruses etc.
Any help or advice anyone can offer?? I’m feeling clueless yet annoyed at the compromised performance.

I was downloading some software to make some of my games on my new Mac Osx leopard 2008 Macbook, and i learned i needed to download a program that would allow my computer to run in 256 mb (i dont really know what that means) , so i ran the program and although at this point i wanted to turn back and undo it because i was scared of it being a virus, but the computer suddenly restarted… now whenever i turn on the computer it does the little loading rotation, the screen turns the light blue, and then it goes back to a frozen original startup screen and there is a frozen mouse, but i can move another mouse… any help from a computer expert would be nice, also in the screen i do have control of the computer, suck as inverting the colors, but i do not have any UI .
after hittting command-v on startup, i looked at the code and one piece stuck out at me…
“display: family specific matching fails”
also when im at the frozen screen it feels as if the computer is running behind that screen..
heres the link to the download

Often when I click on a link, on my way to it another page pops in over the top. For example, if I click a link for MAC iPOD information, a page offering me a free iPOD will intervene.
If I do a search for spyware, then a page pops up telling me I’m infected with god knows how many problems and tries to force me into clicking to download their programme.
So my movements are being tracked by advertisers. How do I stop it?
These are just two of many examples.
